Girl S.M.A.R.T. (Science, Math, Art, Reading and Technology)
An eight-week intensive summer educational enrichment program created especially for girls! This program is designed to increase academic performance in the areas of math, reading, and science,. We provide daily instruction in math, science, reading and science and a safe haven for girls to be a girl. Our program further include comprehensive case management; daily nutritional meals and field experiences.
The program will start June 7, 2007 and end July 31, 2007. Academic classes
are offered Monday through Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 11:50 a.m. Our staff
is onsite from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Certified teachers teach our girls
in science, math, reading, and writing.
The science component includes hands-on activities offered by the Science Place in Fair Park. Enrichment opportunities offered in the afternoon. The comprehensive opportunities over the eight-week program include: Spanish, sign language, visual and performing arts, financial literacy, college & career development, writing workshop/book club and field experiences.
Our new emphasis for the life skills program during the 2007 summer program
will be healthy living, exercise and sports. Studies show that overweight
children, it is especially in the communities of color are at an all time
high. Our goal is to educate the importance of healthy living and physical
fitness throughout life.
